Not sure where to start when it comes to Survival and Prepping?
That’s OK, that’s exactly what this page is for.
Let just jump right in.
The first big decision you need to make is if you plan to Bug Out or Stay Put when SHTF.
You don’t have to decide right now, but you eventually need to make this decision. This decision will guide you in many of your preps going forward.
To help you decide, start with this article I wrote for American Preppers Network, it provides some guidance related this topic.
If you read this article you probably discovered that there are a lot of things to consider before deciding whether to Stay or Go.
One major variable that will affect your decision is your current location. If you live in a danger zone county…you might want to consider bugging out or moving.
OK…Let’s Say You Decided That You Want To Bug Out
Since you decided to bug out, you’ll need to determine where you are bugging out to. For some, this might be an easy choice (i.e. Dad’s place, cabin in the woods, etc.) for others, this might be much more challenging.
This is a very personal choice and I cannot make it for you. However, there are some basic things to consider that make a bug out locations good and some that are bad.
Once you have figured out your bug out location, you’ll now know how far you need to travel to get there. Based upon the total distance, you can figure out the best bug out bag for you.
Now that you have your bug out bag…you need to fill it. Pick up my Free 104 item bug out bag checklist and you’ll have a resource to help fill your bag with the right gear.

And finally…we all know disasters don’t happen on a schedule, they happen when we least expect them to. So you’re going to need a Family Rally Plan if SHTF when you are at work or your kids are at school.
Congratulations…Now you should have your packed, light-weight Bug Out Bag ready to quickly take you to your chosen Bug Out Location!
No…I’ve Decided That I Want To Stay Put
That’s fine…there are many reasons you might not want to bug out…including your current location is already remote, you have complex health issues, maybe you have young kids or don’t have a good bug out location figured out. If you are staying put…how do you get started? First, you need to take care of your water and food needs. In order to do this right, you need to calculate your families daily calorie needs. p.s. - A friend of mine was living in Lousiana when Hurricane Katrina devastated the area.
AND he was visiting his family in Houston during Hurricane Harvey!
Can you image? What bad luck...
Anyways, he learned a ton about survival and shared it all with me, but there was one thing, in particular, that stood out the most..
It's not something I thought it would be that's for sure...
